I think im going to change to a 180 t-stat i need to know if i need to get a new gasket or is it an o-ring type gasket.

They are o-ringed. I was going to change mine before I went on a trip (70 miles an hour with AC off and windows down and the temp is a couple needle's width's past 190 and that fan is dang annoying) but I don't have enough time to change it.

I changed toa 180 t-stat before I went to CO a couple of weeks ago. One thing with the 180, the fan will engage more often because there is more heat being dumped into the radiator. The needle before the 180 would sit at about 210, and the fan would occasionally come on. With the 180, the needle would stay a couple of line widths below 190, and the fan would engage regularly. While goin up Wolfs creek pass (rte 160 in CO) pulling 10K, the fan stayed engaged almost all of the time, but temps did not rise. It was 99 degrees and an elevation of 12,200ft.

I have the 180° thermstat and mime seems to run nice and cool. Never moves the needle on the dash.

Mine will rise pulling that wt, I seen mine go to 220 and was still going up luckly I reached the top before it went any higher.
Are you running stock? If so that may make a difference.

I too noticed the fan coming on more frequently with the 180. One thing in the manual it states to torque them to 18ft lbs but one of mine snapped off before that. And I still haven't been able to get the darn thing out. And in the recent TDR mag it talks about that a little bit and they say only torque them to about 1/2 that. Fortunately it seals well with just one in there. Any good tips on getting the busted one out so that I can replace it?

Dumb question from a dummy. Why would the fan go off and on more often with one thermostat than another ??? If anything it seems it would go on more with a 190[sup]o[/sup] stat.

Changing it wasn't what I was talking about. I was talking about driving to get it (bout 20 min), waiting around to see if they have it (god knows how long), then driving home and swapping it out. I only had about 15 min to spare. So yeah.
