Shorth History. Last year I bought my first Diesel truck. 2002 2500 CTD 2wd. Before taking the plunge I joined here and read anything related to what I wanted to buy. Became familiar with the issues with the lift pumps and injection pumps and their failures. When I bought my truck I was informed that both pumps had been replaced with the year. Within a week of purchasing the truck I installed a Dipricol fuel pressure and EGT gauge.

Last few times I drove the truck I noticed very low and almost erratic pressure readings. Hoping for the best I came back to DTR read up on possible causes: isolator for gauge, clogged fuel filter, bad lift pump. Replaced the filter, smacked the isolator with a wrench after checking all the fittings. No start. No fuel pressure. Little fuel in the filter canister. Diagnosis - bad lift pump. I am not against modding the truck - but decided on replacing the original carter lift pump that was still in the original location. $150 at my local Cummins dealer, less than an hour to install it, and it bit of panic for how long it took to bleed the air from the lines and draw 11-13psi at idle. Took well less than 24 hours from diagnosis to completion, didn;t have to pay the dealer the $1050 they wanted for the job, and didn;t have to wait 3 days to get the truck into the dealer for repairs. (out of warranty so it would have been out of pocket). I just wanted to say Thanks to all the members, from one of the lurkers, who takes great pleasure in getting the job done.

DTR has save me $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. i love to read old and new theads. I'm glad you saved money and and take more pride in your truck.

Now, go buy your wife a gift and dinner with the money you saved. The pay back will be rewarding!!!!

Yeah, and if you had taken it to the dealer they would have put an intank pump on and that would be a pain to change. I would strongly suggest a Vulcan big line/relocation kit. You would be amazed at the better PSI at WOT. I can't pull mine down below 11 PSI now and if you have to change out the pump, it's a 10 minute job.

i am in the same boat as you brett. :)
but at least i have spent it logically due to dtr and not just throwing it away on uneducated guesses and incompatible parts.
