When I went out to start the truck this morning i noticed something strange. I noticed that the engine would kind of surge and the interior lights would dim. Then they would go back to normal. Question is, do the grid heaters run when it is cold and the engine is running?? This would kind of explain it but I don't know if they run when the truck runs.
Am I thinking right on this???

that is correct... they will cycle for a few if it's cold enough!

Yes, the grid heaters cycle after the engine is started.

They keep cycling until the engine heats up, the surrounding air temp heats up,
or the vehicle is moving 15 mph. (or thereabouts)

Ahhhh, it's that time of year again.

 

yep...and if you watch your voltmeter....you can tell when they cycle....it will go from 14 volts down to about 10!!
