starter won't disengage

Starter runs on after engine starts, sometimes power still live through the starter. Just installed new starter. Likely starter or truck controls?
Thanks

Was the old starter doing the same thing? if so unhook small wire on starter hook it to a test lite, turn ign to start and observe test light, it should light up and should turn off when you release the key, if it stays lite after releasing the key I would guess a faulty ignition switch, If test light turns off properly every time the key is released, I would say you have a second faulty starter (likely cause is sticking soldnoid) 9 out of 10 times its a bad starter

*** also low battery voltage coupled with High amp draw (starter) can cause the soldnoid contacts to burn/stick together causing the starter to run on verify battery condition with a load test**

Thanks for the info.
I think I solved the problem, I now have a push button on the dash to activate the starter, seems to work good

You did not solve the problem. I could of fixed it quicker than what it took you to put the funky dash push switch in. Why ask for help to fix it right???????
