That TSB was written by dodge the same people who due not stand behind their products,[/quote]

Say what? I don't know where you get that, but I personally haven't had issues with them standing behind their products. The question you have to ask yourself is "Do I want to risk a 10,000 dollar engine repair over a cheap filter?"

Before I stop using fram someone will have to show me how many motors failed because of them and not hear say failures.
This has been discussed at length many times, and the fact remains that if you have a problem with your engine due to the product you're using, which is not on the approved filter list, you'll be forking out the money to fix it. If it's a pride thing that you don't want to listen to a TSB from DC, then that is your perogative. It's their perogative to make you pay because you have been warned. ::)

Sometimes I'm glad I can't see webshots from work.

I was going to check it out from home, but I'll pass now.

Oh, oil filters.
Right now I let the dealership change my oil for me.
No worries if ever a problem crops up and they blame the oil or filter.

When I start doing my own (soon), it'll be nothing but Fleetguard for me.

Nuff said.

Re:Split topic: Oil Filters

;D Over here ordering oil and filter at Cummins Austria is the cheapest way to get an oil and filter change. ;D
It's less than a third for using the stuff Cummins sells me for my engine no. than going for some aftermarket filter and an not approved (API-Class) oil.
Under warranty I'd let the dealer do it since this gives you the proof that it wasn't your fault. Then let the dealer argument with DC or whomever, but you've got your butt saved.

Just my OPINION

On Champion's paper backing plates -- I seen what I seen what I seen what I seen. What more can I say? If I see it again, I'll take a photo, too. In the mean time, visit the oil filter review sites -- those that have tested Super-Tech don't have much good to say about them, other than the price. A couple note the paper backing plates. But buy what you like. It's a semi-free world. . . .

As long as ya'll are still talking about filters, how about the NAPA Gold? Any info on those? I've been running them for as long as I've been driving, but I've yet to see anything pop up here about them. Are they good? Bad? Thanks!

I don't know whether you'd be glad or sad- maybe you'd pity me. ;)
The filter is @ 9US$/pc, but the FRAM is only 35 US$/pc. [laugh]
Valvoline Cummins Premium Blue is around US$ 2.5/liter. Other oil usually starts around 10-12US$/liter.

I would like to know if anyone has information on Luberfiner oil filters. They make one to fit these engines.

Also RE: the statment about Ford and Cummins, you should check this site.http://www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/p...0880C4A8F00000

It seems we have another urban legend on our hands

Actually any bypass filter will go on any engine. The amount of oil bypassed is controlled by the size of the jet in the filter. I plan on installing the big luberfiner on mine to gain the three gallon extra oil capacity.

oil filters

Actually what I ment was that they make a spin on filter for these engines. I was wondering if any one had seen any preformance tests on those filters. the filter # is LPF780.

mic646 12-25-2003 11:20 PM

Senerio-1 You have an aftermarket oil filter on your rig and it has a problem and does sever damage to your engine. Do you think DC or cummins will take the responsibility and make the repairs for you? So your choice is to go after the oil filer manufacture. For one, you will be without your truck for a long long time. And two I bet you will need an attorney to try to convince the filter manufacture it was the filter that caused the problem and not the motor that caused the filter to fail.

Senerio-2 You pay a few cents more for the Mopar or Fleetgaurd filter. Have a filter problem and does motor damage. DC has no choice to make the repairs no ifs and or buts. It was there part that failed and caused damage.

My money is on Mopar or fleetgaurd filters. Why try to save a buck when it could cost you several thousands of dollars.

Only my opinion.
