Speedometer Sticking on 2002

I have a problem with a "Sticking Speedometer" indicator. This has now happened 3 times in the last 10-15 trips. The speedometer indicator will stick on 0 mph untill I bounce the plastic in front of the dash indicator. I think the 2002 has a speed sensor in the auto tranny and the speedometer is electric/electronic, not mechanical? Is the the dial indicator just sticking against the clear plastic cover? Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks, Bill

My guess would be that the problem is the needle binding against the plastic lens or against something else in the speedo face since you can tap the plastic to free it up. If you pull the dash bezel, you can see the screws to be able to remove the cluster so you can get in there to take a look.

I believe the the speedometer is driven by the PCM computer as are all the gauges. The pickup sensor is located on the rear differential.
