Slow vibration when turning! what now...
Ok guys, I searched the forums for "front end vibration" before making another vibration thread, but most of what I read was for 45-60 mph range. Mine will vibrate with the slightest turn of the wheel, but only at very slow speeds, 0-10 or 15 mph, I notice it when I pull out of my parking spot at work, and when I jockey around the driveway to back in the garage at night. It does it forwards and reverse, left or right. It feels to me like the tire is rubbing on the truck, but ive checked and there's all kinds of room under there! I had the front U-joints replaced a year or two ago with Dana/Spicer OEM's. (Not that I really trusted the dealership that did it) . However I dont seem to notice it at all at higher speeds, 20-25 and higher. Its been doing it for at least a year now, what could it be and whats it gonna cost me this time . Thanks again !

Recently rotated them, didnt seem to help any, i can feel it on gravel too. Could it be U joints or wheel bearings? But its only at low speed..... mmmmm stumped....

Yep, positive. The best way I could describe it would be if you had big tires on a truck and they rubbed when you turned the wheel, that kinda feeling. But it starts at the slightest turn of the wheel and gets worse the farther you turn it. I had leaned towards u-joints, but they are fairly new, and tight, and no other u-joint symptoms. That leaves wheel bearings, but what differance would a slow turn make, i would think they would give me problems all the time?? This truck better quit giving me so much crap, ive got my eye on a durmax....

Man i really don't feel like the only one now. I replaced the front hubs, axle shaft joints, checked the ring and pinion and fluid, all new U joints and still no fix. But i had a buddy slowly move the truck with the wheel turned and found that the rear axle (limited slip) is causing the vibration. The tire was actually jumping as it turned and you could feel the vibration in the steering wheel. I think, HOPE, because I can't keep replacing parts on this thing to darn expensive. So I am gettin right to do a master rebuild and a new Detroit in the rear. Unless someone knows anything different.

I'd go for approx 1/2 bottle of mopar friction modifier before rebuilding the rear axle. Lack of friction modifier will lead to the symptoms you described. Put in a small amount, drive figure 8 on parking lot 3-5 times, if it doesn't stop bucking add friction modifier and repeat figure 8s until bucking is just gone. This way you keep the max efficiency of your LSD without the bucking.

Im going to get a bottle of that and try it tommorow. Thanks for the info, ill let you know what happens. ....You know, I think it did start doing that around the time I swithced to AMS oil in the front and rear diffs., maybe the full synthetic is causing it.

Friction Modifier Did The Trick!
Thanks a ton Alpineram! You were right on the money. I finally found a dealership that had a bottle of the friction modifier for limited slip rear ends. That was the best $10 bucks Ive put into that truck! I dumped the whole bottle in the rear diff. and poof... problem solved! Thanks again!!!!

It’s been along time since this post, but the additive fixed my Ram 2500 too.
Thanks!

Putting in too much will stop the hopping, but will also make the engagement of the LSD a bit sluggish.
Not too nice if you drive in the snow.
Therefore I'd suggest following the procedure outlined in the service manual and shamelessly quoted by me in the original post in this thread.
