Shift lever not letting truck start.

My shift lever is sloppy. If I put it in drive sometimes it will stay in 2nd and I have to bump it up so to speak to get into drive. When I put it in park sometimes, It must not fully engage because if I go out there later and try to start it the engine wont crank over like I was trying to start it in drive. So in that case if I put it in neutral it will fire right up no problem. Question is who has had this happen to them? are there bushings I need to replace? Part #'s. Thanks for all the help.

Check the linkage under the truck on the left (driver) side of the transmission. Most likely its loose and needs to be tightened.

...especially the plastic bushing that is on the linkage near the trans. Sounds like yours let go. You can push it back into place and hold it in position with a small piece of fuel hose. see my picts. also gets rid of that annoying "squeek" from the bushing.
