Severe pull to right..

Have a strong pull to the right when braking. Replaced right caliper. Pads and shoes are good.
Also put chevy 1 ton wheel cyl on rears. Still doesn't stop great. Was thinking about playing with the ?load sensor? brake actuator under the bed. Will this help?

It's probably your left caliper. I'd make sure the air pressure is the same in both fronts also. Or could be the flex lines.

Let me guess, you aren't the original owner of the truck? The '99 trucks for some reason had an infamous pull to the right. If the original owner didn't address it you're up a creek without a paddle. There were multiple trucks across the country that were bought back because of this problem. I wasn't lucky enough to be one of them, but I did get about $4K back from DC which I spent half of on legal counsel and about $1300 of that on the EGR Brakes (Fixed it immediately). The remaining $700 didn't even come close to covering my time. My dealer had my truck for 17 days one month and then they gave up! They offered to testify in court on my behalf if it came down to it!

Replacing the calipers won't do a thing. DC's attempt at fixing it was to put a 5mm shim on the right front hub, but it only helped "improve" the problem, not fix it. Heck, I've still got the darned thing if you want it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and it sounds like whoever bought your truck new from the dealer didn't squeak very much.

Could it be a collasped brake line?

the dreaded brake pull i've heard from a couple of dodge owners i spoke too

from the dealers mouth last i spoke to them. the fix for that was either shimming or they replace the ball joints with a special offset balljoint.

talk to a service manager. there should be a bulletin on these.

Mine is a 2002 4WD 2500 and I bought it used and it has the pull to the right also, it ain't the brakes. I have tried the wheel shim (the TSB indicates putting the shim in the left front) didn't help. Do a search here under my name and you will find info on the TSB and links also. Good luck.

Mine pulled hard right also. I had the Caster angle raised on the right side twice over two front end allignments in Feb of 2003 after putting new tires on. That fixed the problem.

When I put a new set of tires on the truck this summer or fall, I will have it lowered just a little as it still wants to go left just a little. Tire wear is normal on both sides. Running 55psi up front and have almost 77,000 miles on this set of tires. (Michelin LTX MS)

Yesterday at the dealership I had my friend who is a mechanic there go over all the possiblities for trying a fix for the problem:
1)the wheel spacer doesn' work
2)its not a brake problem
3)he realigned it with added caster on the right and less on the left. This did help, certainly not a constant pull now, more of a slow drift.

His theory is that the heavy front end is the culprit. He noticed that on his truck, when pulling his 8,000 lb RV that there is no drift at all, unloaded he has a slight drift also.

BTW, the new Bilsteins he installed REALLY improved the ride.

I second the opinion of replacing the left caliper. That's the one leaking a small amount of fluid on your disc and causing the left to not brake as hard as the right.

Pull to the right

For whatever it is worth, I have a '99 that did the same thing. Repalced the brakes and that worked for about a week or two and it started to pull again. When it got to almost changing lanes, I went to a dealer and talked to the owner. Turns out, he had all the history, and parts Dodge has used over the years to try to fix the problem. I was amazed at the stuff and size of shims, rotors, etc used to no avail. He said the only way he ever found to fix the pull problem was to 1) have the front rotors turned while on the truck and 2) replace the brake pads with OEM oads. DId that - worked great and no more pull. Or, maybe I just got lucky

I've seen sloppy control arms on the 4wd also cause pull when braking.
