RPM uptick when releasing clutch pedal

My motor revs slightly when I release the clutch pedal. The truck is a 2001.5,has about 178,000 miles on it, and has the 6 speed manual shift. Is this normal, or is there something fishy with the clutch or transmission?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Sounds fishy! Try finding if Catfish, carp, or bass.
Is this new as in just started/noticed? Check linkage to assure not being moved as engine torques up. You know the governor will override throttle and try to maintain RPM as load comes on!!! Even if you don't feather throttle taking of, the governor will give more fuel.

Thanks Dozer! LOL! I'll take the Bass, probably in the 15 lb. variety!

I have noticed this since purchasing the truck back last December with 172,000 on the ticker.

I will try your suggestions. Thanks!

Mine does that. You are just engaging the clutch disc and the gear sets in the trans when in neutral and adding drag to the engine which makes the governor kick up the rpms to keep the idle at the proper setting.

mine does it too.

I have a 98.5 (as you know if you looked at my sig.) and it does the same thing, i notice it more when i am really getting on it to get up to speed on the on ramp. But i also notice it when i have the engine lugged down around an idle just moving around in the driveway or parking lot. I have just asumed its normal cause all the diesels i have ever driven have done it(that were stick shift)

I also have a question...on the "insturment pannel light check" i get the little ''shift indicator'' light the comes on, however I never see the thing when i'm accually driving, just on the "light check"

Those are disabled in the diesels. They should just be eliminated all together. Useless!

Kurtaing is exactly right.

Mine does the same thing.

Kurtaing has explained nicely why the ECM is doing it.
