Rear Swaybar Link Removal

Is there any easy way to remove the drivers side rear swaybar link? I am trying to replace it but to remove the top bolt the bolt has to slide toward to fuel tank and there is not enough room to get it out without by the looks of it dropping the tank.

I dropped my tank as well. I put the bolt in the other way so I could remove it easily if it needs to be done again.

Out of curiousity, what are the symtoms of a bad link? I've got a poping noise and a slipping feeling when turning slow and hard to the left.
