Rear end carrier bearing removal

2000 dually, Dana 80
ruined both axle shafts, spiders. Long story short, scored a rear with a broken housing, but good internals. I need to set up bearing pre load on my new limited carrier (was open) but I don't have a puller. I need to not ruin the shims when I take the bearings off each time, so I can't use a chisel. No one in town has a puller that reaches behind the bearing to the inner race. They are all smaller so they hit the roller retainer and rollers.
My question, where do I find one cheap. It needs to have a larger inner diameter.

the otc ones in the link above have too small of center diameters. I need like a 4 inch center diameter, not 1/2"
Thanks, Kelly

Hold on a minute!........Are you familiar with how to correctly set up a ring and pinion?.........there is much more to it than just bearing pre load.......you can't mix used ring gears and pinion gears either..........proper pinion depth must first be determined and set.......before you move on to carrier bearing preload the correct mesh pattern has to be determined and the correct backlash has to be set.......for first timers this can be a frustrating experience on a Dana axle......finally, to get the proper preload on 80 carrier bearings you will need a case spreader........a properly preloaded 80 carrier will not slide in and out of the housing by hand without a case spreader............I would highly recomend that you let a pro do the ring and pinion swap for you or at least assit you the first time.

In addition to the bearing puller and case spreader, you will need a large press to install the bearings on the carrier.

Sorry, I don't mean to come off like a know it all, I just want to make sure you get it done right.

The only thing I don't have is the puller. I am putting my ring gear back with the pinion it was on before, in the housing it was in before. Didn't even pull the pinion out, no need. All I am doing is swapping carriers. Have an experienced R and P guy helping, he just doesn't have a big enough puller

got it done with a borrowed puller I found at a shop North of my town. It only took 4 carrier stabs and removals to get the backlash about as good as its gonna get. we both thought it looked beautiful, a little high face, but almost not enough to be noticable.
thanks for the reply
