Rear Axle Oil Leak

Anyone ever had a leak where the drive shaft goes into the rear axle? Just noticed it yesterday but haven't had time to investigate it. Thanks for the help in advance.

Pinion seal, yes they will leak, and yes your have to remove the driveshaft yoke to remove it.

Does the driveshaft have to be rebalanced after it is taken off?

no, just drop the end, or tie it up out of the way

And keep track of orientation of shaft to yoke.

Make sure you check for play as the front bearing is known for going out. If there is any play you better replace the pinion bearings.

Chalk your wheels before removing the axle shaft[duhhh]

Check with local diff rebuild shop and see if your rearend uses a crush sleeve. If so find out how much more you can torque the new pinion nut, with a old crush sleeve in place or just install a new crush sleeve.
