new BD exhaust brake question

The exhaust brake and 4 inch straight pipe got put on the 2000. Didn't really sound any different, but I didn't hear it under load either. Corry says it all went together real easy. But there is one thing that bugs me.

Shouldn't the brake shut off when the engine gets to idle? I know it can be used to put some load on the motor to warm it up, but it was up over probably 150 today, and when the boss threw the switch on, sitting still with no throttle, the brake came on.

Maybe now I can talk them into putting them on the duramax's and saving the brakes on those things.

No, it won't shut off at idle.

Yes it will shut off at idle, you just have to wire it the right way.

Do you have the micro switch on the throttle pedal?

Mine is wired through the micro switch to (in my case) the switch on the shifter. When the shifter switch is "on", the brake works every time I lift off the pedal. When I drive, I am usually turning the shifter switch on and off as I down shift or descend a hill to allow the brake to work. Sitting still at a light or at idle, the shifter switch is off, thus no brake action.

When you want to warm up in the morning, pull the shifter switch and the brake comes on while idling at a stop.

There should have been a "power" switch installed to allow the brake to not be actuated when you don't want or need the unit.

That's where a switch on the shifter comes in handy. On my 01 with the Jacobs exhaust brake it stays on when your off the gas. I would like a switch tied to the speedometer. Maybe shut it off below 5 MPH.

Read what he said. His boss turned the switch on.

I thought maybe the warm-up-assist would let the brake come on til it got up to X degrees, then shut it off at idle, with no throttle input.

They put the switch in the dash above the pedal.
