Pulsing / Surging engine
I had a thread on here last week called 'Unhappy Truck'. I know a bunch more now so I figured I would start a new and more appropriately labelled thread. If I gently accelerate between about 65 kph and 80 kph or try to hold a steady speed about 75 kph, the truck engine bucks and surges. I cleared all codes a week ago and after a long drive yesterday where I experienced the symptoms, I am stil code free. One of the datasets I can monitor on my Edge Insight is the Accelerator Pedal Position. I was holding the pedal perfectly still yesterday for quite a while during a surging episode. The computer showed the APP going down to 14% and up to 29% wildly. As soon as I dropped the APP down or moved it up a bunch, symptoms went away and fluctuations shown on gauges stopped. To me, that says bad APPS. Just before I order a Timbo APPS, I want to try resetting the existing APPS. I tried search and can't find the procedure. If anyone has it handy and would post it or post the link to it, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for help.

You can reset it by unhooking the batteries and letting the truck sit for about a half hour or more to let the capacitors drain down. Hook em back up and turn the key to on, but don't start. Slowly and steadily depress the accelerator pedal down and then back up. Start the truck.
You are probably due for a new apps and the Timbo is what I went with and haven't had any problems since.

or you have a bad APPS..
If it were me..timbo apps..
I was all ready to make a replacement but found my VP was the problem..that was 3yrs ago..expensive..yes..but replacing my APPS wouldn't have fixed the my problem..dead pedal..at time..different that your problem

I am hoping it isn't the VP but I am aware that is a possibility. I have read so much on the VP and it just doesn't sound like the VP to me. It is kind of frustrating, truck full of computers, to really good code readers and no codes. Grrrr
It was really bad today but again only between about 60km/h and 80km/h.
I will reset the apps tomorrow or the next day and see what happens. If it is the APPS then I will go with Timbo.
Thanks again for help and suggestions folks.

Just so you know, resetting it will change nothing if it is bad. It does sound like a bad APPS and the Timbo is much cheaper than OEM. What you have sounds pretty much what I had when mine went bad. Mine was actually cutting out, just like a bad pump. If it turns out not to be the problem at least you know it is done and you will never have to worry about it again.

Resetting the APPS did the trick. Did the reset over the weekend and drove it today - all is good. From what I hvae read, this is only a band-aid though, a Timbo APPS will be on my shopping list eventually.
I have read they are a rheostat-like device, like the fuel sender, and can wear out in the sweet spot, especially from extended highway driving.
I hope thats your fix! Mine didn't toss any codes either, but it wasn't as extreme as your symptoms.

It is now Timbo time. I searched the online store and the site sponsors section and I cannot find mention of Timbo anywhere. Where do I find his contact info?

Well folks, truck is happy again. I ordered my APPS from Timbo last Monday afternoon. It arrived in Friday. I watched the YouTube installation and calibration videos twice. Then I read the instructions 3 or 4 times to be sure I knew what I was doing. I took my time and was very careful during the installation. I double checked everything I did. The whole thing took me 45 mins from when I popped the hood until I pulled out of the driveway for a test drive. I am pretty sure I could do my second one in 15 or 20 minutes. Timbo's instructions are very clear, with lots of pictures and the videos removed all doubt.
Now to the real question - how is the truck? The bucking and surging is all gone. I am sure I am imagining some of the improvement because I felt it accelerated more smoothly and shifted better. Who knows what is real and what is imagined but there is no question the major problem is now gone.

Tim's APPS is an excellent unit. Put one on my truck a few years back ( shortly after he started producing them ). No problems to date.
Definitely worth the price, and excellent customer service as well.

Truck runs like new and seems to be getting better mileage. Good luck.
