Problems removing silencer ring

Anyone else have problems geting their silencer ring out? Mine wouldn't budge with a screwdriver so I got my buck knife out. I got the ring to move and then the tip of the knife broke off. Arrgh. That sucked, but I now enjoy hearing the turbo even better now. Looks like it might be time for a BHAF soon.

Too bad about the buck. If you send it back to buck, they will fix it...but are you SURE you broke it by prying on it, or did you drop it on the cement?

It broke prying on it. Right when I had a good gap in the snap ring the knife broke. I know a knife shop not to far from me that will re-tip the knife for 6 dollars. Oh well, just glad to have the silencer out.

I know...You said you used it to pry in your previous post. What I was getting at was that you cannot tell Buck Knives you were prying with it if you want them to replace it for free.

Oh, I understand Mike. I am not sending it to them though.

When the ring was in, I didn't really hear the turbo unless I was leanin on it or on the highway.

With out the ring, I can hear it as soon as it spools up and is just a little louder all around.

That is with the stock airbox. If you put a BHAF on, I hear it will really sing.

I removed mine, wasn't really worth the effort. Can't hear it any louder anyway.

Joel,

Maybe it's time for some new batteries in your hearing aid. ;D

If you have the stock airbox and filter, I doubt you will notice any difference in sound. It is with the aftermarket intakes where there is a difference. I think the oil/gauze filters make the biggest difference in sound.

My son (MOPAR440) has the AFE filter on the truck I just got hom and it is all turbo noise. It is real cool on a short trip but it is to the extent that it would aggravate me on a long trip.
