Update on VP44 / Lift Pump

Just went back to the shop after fixing VP44 leak. Had installed fuel pressure warning light at time of repair and 4 days later, climbing a grade and passing a vehicle, low pressure light came on and then went off. Thought, Hmmmm, that's odd. Wondered if it was just a greater demand on fuel and lag in response. After it happened again, same day, went back and had pressure checked again and after a few trys, got the lift pump error. So, am now replacing stock pump with FASS DDRP pump. Guess the low pressure light may have saved me on the VP44.

PO did warranty VP at 99,500.

Ran fine when I bought it at 120,000; Jan 2007. I found a dead LP around 125,000; I think it was the stock pump. Installed Allied Power stock replacement with Vulcan relay kit. About $125 for the pump.

Started having Dead Pedal Nov 07. Drove it until Sept 08. Replaced VP at 135,000. Reman from local shop (not done in-house) had 3yr/30K warranty.

01 3500 6sp, no performance mods, Feel dumb but bought at 320,000km
No Prev owner records. Vp44 Inj pump looks original? LP still on side of engine
Poor start warm, no start cold, Poor towing performance, poor fuel econ. noted at 345,000km. Will replace LP with frame mount (brand?).
VP44 may have life left but they all seem to die shortly after LP change.
So bracing for that bill as well. + press gauge and filter. Anything else?

Look for codes P2016, Or 0216. I don't remember. If it ends in a 16 it's not good

Year/Model truck 01 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4
Mileage at problem(s) 124K
Costs $1030 thedieselstore.com
Replacements 1 VP 44
Why? Dead Pedal about 3 months ago. Noticed the lift pump was out. Put an airdog 100 on it but was just borrowed time
Other: Replaced the lift pump, then the VP. Did it myself was pretty straightforward, just took some time to get to the pump. Just installed a fuel pressure gauge. I'm set for now.

Year: 2002 2500 4x4
Mileage: Appox 110 000 km
Cost: Roughly $2000
Location: High Level, AB

It kicked the bucket about 3 hours before my 13 hour trek south with a trailer to move my stuff back up north in High Level! Happened near the beginning of may last year during one of our worst blizzards! Luckily my boss was nice enough to let me borrow the company truck for the move. But needless to say I wasn't the happiest either, but at the same time glad it didn't do it on the highway in that snow storm...

Just kicked the bucket last week. 423,000 miles one the original VP-44. I went with MWFI. They sent it over night and promised all updates were incorporated including new electronics. We'll see what they say is true as it is running good now but only 700 miles on it pulling a trailer and highway use empty.
