One problem down now another

I replaced my VP and lift pump this week and today i was driving around and noticed that my fuel guage wasn't dropping like normal so i figured i'd better fill it up to see where i was at on fuel. The guage was reading a half tank and it took 28 gallons to fill it up!!! I think that the float is hanging up. Is it possible to pull the top of the tank out high enough to clean the sender with the tank still under the truck?

If you lift the bed off, you could probably do whatever you want without pullling the tank. Yeah, you might think I'm crazy, but the fuel sending units in these trucks are famous for failures, and many guys have opted to pull the bed off instead of dropping the tank. I guess it depends on the equipment (drinking buddies with strong backs) you have available. I dropped my tank because I was by myself.
You might also be able to remove the bolts for the bed and jack up the front of the bed enough to do what you have to do, but I don't know any caveats of this method. I'm betting there are some, but I don't know them.
