anyone know about the flash/ecm I mentioned from dodge. I got thinking and it was some time ago when i got the smarty and the smarty has the lastest and greatest software from dodge. wondering if the smarty would of had the flash in their software that would have turned the gauge into a dummy gauge..

I don't know what year they changed, but in 01 the guage will indicate properly between 20 & 80 psi. below 20 and it defaults to a very low reading and above 80 (it shouldn't get that high) it defaults to a very high reading.
as per shop manual.

On my 98.5 my gauge will be showing 80 lbs. but my Snap-On scanner will be showing 35lbs. at the same time. I am guessing the sensor for the computer is different from the gauge sensor. My gauge does move around so it is not an idiot light but the fact that it is showing 40 lbs. different than the computer means I have to get a manual gauge on there and see exactly what I do have.

sorry, i guess i should have taken into account that a lot of you guys live a lot further north than i do & you see a lot colder temperatures.....i just know that with the temps we get here in the south i've never seen my oil pressure gague take longer than 5-7 seconds to jump up to a normal pressure reading when the truck is idleing......

My 01 was not accurate, more of the idiot light. That is why I installed a mechanical oil psi gauge, and will be installing it in the 03.

I thought that 00-02 if a reflash on the ecm from the dealer turned the gauges into a idiot light no matter if it was working somewhat correctly.. but as far as the oem gauge and how soon it responds to show movement. my mechanical gauge through the filter housing responds quicker than the oem dash gauge so dont know more than that

When my engine is cold my oil pressure gauge takes about 2-3 seconds to start moving and about 15-20 to max out at 85-90 psi. This is at about 30 degrees. If its warmer out it takes less time with less max psi. If its colder it will take longer with more psi. I've seen it touch 100 psi on a cold morning. The lowest I've seen it was 32 psi on a hot day towing heavy at idle.

Oil pressure is read from a mechanical gauge in the stock port location.

Reading between the lines and I live down south my question is answered. My gauge takes 3 to 5 seconds to move off the peg. I was worried the spring and plunger in the filter housing that I think controls the pressure. Thanks guys

I wish I could tell you it takes XX seconds to make pressure, but since I bought my truck the gauge goes to 60 psi at engine turn on, even after an oil/filter change. I am pretty sure I need a new oil sender, just not sure how to diagnose the problem so that I don't buy a lot of unnecessary parts.....anybody got a spare 2001 oil sender
