Oil change and oil pan info..
I was working today with the commercial engine getting ready to install it. The commercial engine has a recommended oil change frequency of 15,000 where the Dodge engine has a 7000 or 3500 sequence depending on the use.
The only difference between the engines is the size of the oil pan which on the commercial is deeper for the entire length. Also discovered that the pan is reversable. This one was set up with a front sump, the pan also bolts on the other way for a rear sump. Of course the pickup is different.
The commercial filter is the same stratafore with a slightly different thread on it. So the only difference in the engines is the oil capacity. A bypass filter with of a good size even without a filter in it would double the length of time for a change.
An interesting difference in the pans is that the commercial is much thicker steel and is painted tan with a strong smooth paint on the inside.
