Off road fuel is exactly the same as regular fuel, only it has red dye added to it to show road taxes haven't been paid on it. It won't hurt a thing to run it, but if you get caught with it in your tank there's a big fine.

The off-road at our local MFA used to be B20, which I ran when I could. However, when the required low sulfur junk came out, the off-road fuel did become exactly like standard. It'll save you some at the pump, but I don't run it anymore. I'm not worried about getting dipped, its just that all the law enforcement agencies (police, sheriff, DOT) fill up there too. Not much you can say pumping at the lone off road pump showing 30 gals on the ticker.

I've seen at a few farm auctions where the DOT was swabbing the tail pipes of the Diesel pickup's. It just looked like a long Q Tip

Don't get caught in Az.with red diesel in your tank! A friend of mine was running off road diesel in his and got caught, they impounded his vehical on the spot, he had to call a service truck out from a cat dealership( 100.00 per hr.) to suck out the fuel and drop the tank, compleatly drain and clean the tank and fuel lines on the truck, then he was allowed to put 5 gal. of clean fuel in his tank, and drive off with a 1000.00 fine. The total cost of the tank of off road diesel cost him about 2500 dollars...............

its exactly the same fuel with red die .will not hurt anything its just died to spot illegal off hwy use of it. uncle sam wants his cut. also some dealers will void warr. if red fuel is found in filter. its not worth running it because you can loose your truck/pay huge fine.. its tempting but don't do it! my .02

I was up in Kitrell, NC, picking up my camper in June and had some local sheriff's come in and ask who owned the white truck. I had a locking gas cap on it so they needed me to unlock it to check the fuel. They dipped every truck on the lot (about 4-5 diesels) by sticking a long plastic thingy in the tank. I get out of jail on Monday. Just kidding, my tank was clean, but they're out there looking....

So lets say you drive 30k a year, 15mpg that 2000 gallons. assume a 35gallon tank that means in a year you will use 285 gallons of off road fuel using your 5 gallons every fill up. Assuming $.60 per gallon in taxes you will save 171 dollars. Doesn't really seem worth it does it.
