if the bearing goes out in these, is it rebuildable?does the trans have to be replaced?

my brother says he was cruising down the road towing a car and trailer, all of a sudden the truck went dead. he can get into 2nd gear but if he puts the clutch in it kills the truck. he had it towed to a dodge dealer and they said the bearing is out, new trans is gonna be $4400, does that sound right?

also lookin for a transmission shop in or around levenworth kansas

Yes these trans are rebuildable but what i found was for the extra money i was better off just buying a rebuild. That is probley what the dealer will charge but i payed $2350 (canaidian dollar) for a rebuilt. I found mine at a trans. shop. So if you just keep looking around you will find something cheaper than the dealer.

how many miles were on the truck when it went?

80-90k,and we have since found some cheaper for sure but problem is getting it installed in Leavenworth KS. anyone know of a shop that can do it

Mine went out at 254 860 miles.
