Red flags should be going up right away if you can't quickly and easily hit max boost (20-21 psi) when towing 12k.....if there is no consistent black smoke at the 16 psi you say you can achieve, you have a fueling problem. For one reason or another you are not getting peak fueling for a stock truck.....this will seriously limit your power. As it has been mentioned, clean the sensors and get those codes checked - have you actually scanned for codes?

I agree with CTD NUT, it just sounds like its not getting enough fuel. My truck would roll out the smoke when pulling up a hill and hitting 20PSI no problem.........can't remember what EGTS were but I know they were well over 1000*!!

Either that or it could be a boost leak somewhere that isn't allowing it to boost properly. Check your boots and make sure they aren't leaking. But still even if boost was leaking, you should still have some smoke out of it!!

If it was a boost leak, I would expect egt's to be higher than they are.......

Ok, fueling, where do I start? What do I check? Could this be an injector problem?

Start by getting the fuel pressure checked and the injection pump. If there is good pressure going to the pump then it is probably the vp44. If not adequate pressure at vp44 then it is the lift pump. Find someone with a test gauge or get one yourself.

I've got 14 psi at idle, post filter, and 11-12 at wot. I'm running the Vulcan fuel lines too.

I guess what I saying is...it would be good to veryify that reading to make SURE those numbers are correct. Hopefully, not the Injector pump. Any irregular, white smoke??

No white smoke. Like I said before, just a puff of black smoke when pulling from a stop. How do I check the injector pump pressure?

Good question...I think you have to rely on the codes. Injector pump pressure is very high - well over a thousand psi I believe.

if your not getting 20 lbs boost I would suspect a pluged fuel filter with that low of egt s.......if you had fuel and no boost (leak @ IC) you would have high egt s.............so no fuel.

New fuel filter has less than 1000 miles. I can't get this thing to pull more than 18 psi, ever. I have looked into it and was told that stock should be between 18 and 21 psi, so I thought it was normal. Will an intake help?

No. I thought it should throw the cel if a code was present, especially that injection pump code. Am I wrong? If so, do I need to have the dealer scan it, or any auto shop?

Not necessarily with the CEL....At the very least have autozone scan it.

Sometimes, VPs dies and dont even throw a code.
