new vp44

5 days ago I replaced the lift pump and injector pump. $1700 ouch!! Is it possible for the lift pump to be going bad again only 200 miles later. Don't have a fuel pressure gauge installed yet, but I seem to be short on power at full throttle. Can I buy a test gauge, and where do I check the fuel pressure?

Without knowing if you are getting good fuel pressure it is entirely possible that you fried the new IP.

You can test the fuel pressure with a 0-30 PSI, 1/8" NPT guage hooked up to the top of the fuel canister on a "99".

check your fuel pressure between the fuel filter and the vp, you can check at the bottom of fuel filters or at the banjo fitting on the vp. why get a temporary guage? you need a permanant one

Was just thinking if I could get a quick reading with a temporary gauge, then maybe I could sleep tonight.

Use the fittings on the top of the fuel filter canister.
The idle Pressure doesn't indicate a good or bad pump though.
The TRUE test is the pressure at Wide Open Throttle under load.

Set it up like above with a piece of hose and gage that will reach up between the hood and the wndshield. It's only temp, but you can see what's happening while your driving.

paid to have a fuel pressure gauge installed this morning. Showed 12psi at idle. Checked the fuel filter and it was a mess, don't know if it had ever been changed. Only had the truck for 4 weeks. Changed filter and now has 15psi at idle, 10psi WOT. Runs much better now.
