Angry new lift pump won't pressurize

Just installed my new lift pump and fuel filter. I bumped the
starter the first time and pressure wouldn't go past 5 psi.
If I open the water drain on the filter and bump the starter
I can hear the pump draw down and then I close the drain
and pressure will build to 16 psi , but evertime I try to bump the
starter with the drain closed it sounds like the pump is sucking
air and pressure will not build past 5 psi.Where would air be
entering the system and what would everyone reccomend.

If you emptied the filter canister, you will have to bump the starter several times. If that don't work, loosen way back on injector lines 1 and 3 (almost off). I had to do the same thing a couple of days ago.

If that don't work, take everything back off and re-install it.

Loosen the Banjo bolt on the feed line to the Injection pump open about 1 -1 1/2 turns.
"Bump" the starter 4 or 5 times or until you start getting fuel at that fitting, then tighten the banjo bolt and fire up the engine.

What he said.
Also if you think it may be sucking air, the quick release on the supply line near the firewall is kind of cheesey. Might want to check that.
