Need Help - '02 H.O. w/Lots of Codes and not Running Right
I've been out of the diesel truck game for awhile and this one has me as well as a dealer and local independent mechanic stumped. My Dad's '02 2500 H.O. is acting up and nothing we've tried has fixed it. It runs fine at idle but will stutter when given throttle as well as very inconsistent throttle response. The grid heaters won't cycle, the temp. gauge will peg and drop back down randomly, the WIF light will randomly come on and off, and the cruise control will kick itself off and on randomly.
Truck is currently showing the following codes: PCU - P1693; ECU - P1488, P0177, P0575, P0112, P0117, P0521, P0342, P1295. All grounds and connectors have been checked, two different ECM's have been tried and no change. Any thoughts?

Could be any one of the sensors described in your fault list that is shorting out and interfering with the power feed that supplies the rest of the sensors. You would need to consult the wiring diagram, find the wire that supplies voltage to those sensors, and monitor it while the condition is present. Also, you may be able to disconnect each sensor and see if the condition goes away.

Are you positive the second ECM you tested was programmed correctly?

We've tried two different ECM's, from two different suppliers. They both requested the VIN so that they could get them programmed correctly. Neither one changed how the truck acted. Our local independent is the one we got the ECM's through so I didn't deal with that directly. The tech at the dealership couldn't figure it out so he got Chrysler engineers involved and they told him it was the ECM as well but that Chrysler doesn't have them available anymore.

I would replace the camshaft position sensor on spec. They have a bit of a history of shorting out. Don't forget to inspect the wiring harness plug at the sensor also.
