Need clutch help for a nv4500.
 

Im looking at going back with a Valair clutch the 13in conversion just not sure wheather to go with ofe or fe. I use the truck mainly for fun and driving only on weekends and only is used to tow about once a month but it is about 15,000 to 16,000 pounds. Dont do any sled pulling but do like to do a few hard launches and occasional burnout. Goal hp wise is 500 max just didnt know which one to go with. One person said the fe was hard on the smaller input shaft and wasnt sure if anyone had experience with this. Like i said just looking for your thoughts on this since not 100% daily driver but would like to be able to if I needed to.

I have no experience with either of those, but from what I've read, the OFE usually is a little more grabby than stock, but is still very drivable and towable. The FE is quite grabby, and is said to be much more difficult to back trailers around than the others. None of them like much slipping, which compounds it a bit. The OFE's are usually rated around 450hp, no? Southbend usually under rates their stuff, and it sounds like Valair is the same, you'd probably be safe with the OFE at 500hp, but its something to think about. Again, I have no actual experience, but I figured I'd toss in my hearsay since you haven't gotten much response otherwise.

Thanks for the input thats the way I have leaned just wasnt sure if the fe would be better for if I do play with it and do some hard launches.

i have a south bend fe and it holds great , theres a little shutter starting in second all the time but it good piece of mind because i didnt want to change it for a long time. i drive in a lot of traffic everyday and it not hard on the leg at all.

Thanks i was wondering how a FE is in traffic course I had some shutter with my factory one but was pretty sure it was cause of the fly wheel had hot spots.

I put a Valair ogranic feramic dual friction clutch in a buddy's truck a few weeks ago. It was really smooth and his truck makes close to 500 and it held it no problem. Not to mention that Valair has great customer support. Call Kevin at Valair and he can tell you the properties of each clutch.
