Exclamation Need Answers

Hello Guys,
I am asking this question for a friend of mine who has a 98 24v and I do not know much about the 24v's as I am a 12v guy.

So to start things off his truck will not start, but it will crank just not turn over. He has a fASS (not to familiar with those) and says he has replaced that along with a new vp44 IP. Along with these new parts he has cracked the injector lines and the injectors are getting fuel. Now since I drive an complete mechanical 12v I do not know what to do with these electronic controlled fuel systems. When fuel is sprayed into the cylinders is it a huge spray or a trickle? Hard to ask a question like that.

First off what does the fASS do?
Any Suggestions on what to look for?

I figure nothing else I will learn a thing or too about the 24v motors

I am not familiar with some of these code numbers, how are you all retrieving the code numbers? On my ole 12v it is turn the ignition on and off three times, is it the same of are you using a scan tool?

Anybody have any ideas?

Key rotation thing should work the same on his truck. The FASS works as a lift pump and a fuel/water seperator/filter, just brings the fuel up from the tank.

So since he has a FASS does the lift pump been deleted? I know these questions are simple but I have not seen the truck yet.

Are these the codes that start with a P and then have a 4 digit number? If not how do I obtain those codes.

Thanks

Is it a new FASS install? Sounds like air in the fuel lines.

Does he have plenty of fuel? Gas gauges tend yo not be so accurate in these things.

New FASS Install? He has put in a new FASS filter. Yes there is fuel in the tank. The truck is cranking but not firing. Where is a good place to look for air getting in?

Thanks

If it was running before the new filter, I'd say air in the lines. Make sure to open the 1st 3 and turn it over until fuel comes out. Should crank & run like poo until the rest of the air is purged.

So let me make sure I understand this correctly. Open up the injector lines 1-3 and crank the truck until fuel pours out. Then reconnect them and then try and start the truck to see if the air has been bleed. Is there any other way to bleed air from the fuel lines? I will have him try it.

Thanks

Yeah those are the codes that you are looking for and I don't believe that there is a easier way to bleed the fuel lines.

Thanks for the reply,
When I crank the motor over and see what fuel come out, when I reconnect the the injector lines wont some air get trapped in there?

Don't disconnect the lines. Just crack them open enough for fuel to leak out when you crank the engine over. Once you start seeing fuel, ( ya it will make a mess) you tighten them up and it should chug to life. A lot of times it will try to start even before you tighten them back up again.
