Maintenance

Alright,

I have had this truck for 3 years now, and am wondering what else I can do to make it run for a good long time. Truck has 86,699 miles.

I have changed the fluid in all of the following:
Differentials, transfer case, transmission, power steering, brake system.

I change the oil at the 7,500 mile interval and empty puke bottle;
fuel filter ~15,000 unless I get a bad batch of fuel or mileage goes down.

Stock airbox with stock filter, change as needed or 15,000 miles.

What else should I be checking into regularly? The reason I ask is because the fuel mileage fluctuates from 14-17 around town with an average of 15.

I have been told a 24V should be getting 18mpg. I don't hotrod it, but sometimes I do like to hear the turbo spool...

Thanks!

Maintenance

That is all you probably get around town.
Open road 18-21 MPG[coffee]
You should change your Transmission filter at least once a year and
adjust the Bands on your Tranny.[director]

So far it seems like you're on top of the maintenance. In town you're not gonna get great mileage but on the interstate you should see around 18. I get around 17.5 overall. Hopefully that'll go up when I get my valves adjusted.

Not fair to compare automatics with manuals. 15 MPG around town is average for heavy populated areas. I live in a rural area and get 16 around town... but only 10 lights in the whole town.

I average 16.7-17.5 mpg on 500 miles tests...depending on how often I have a load in the bed. That's probably 60% Hwy/40% town.

Thanks for the replies.

If I can't get a fleetguard air filter, which do you recommend?

Thanks

When I went with a BHAF, AH19037 Fleetguard number, it raised my MPG by about 2 mpg. They also last for several thousand miles, like a year or more.

What kind of mileage are you getting? Ever do a 500 or 1,000 mile mileage test??

When I drove 15 miles one way to work I was getting 18-19. When I go to Colorado I get 21-22 with cruise set on 80-82. If I take it easy and cruise at 60, I can easily get 23+. Pulling a 35' fully loaded truck and 5er from Colorado Spings over Wolfcreek Pass to Pagosa Springs, I got 12.

Mine averages 15 around town.
