I don't know but think 18000 for a 02 is high at least in my area.

I'm thinking 13K-14K with the low miles. These trucks have problems but don't let the VP scare you. Mine has 228K on it and is still going strong and I even ran it for 10K miles with a dead LP (before I knew the importance of gauges).

What fuel system does he have? FASS & AirDog are ~$5-600 + install.

Wobbling sector shaft + sloppy steering = shot steering box. RedHead ~ $250 + $150 install. Even Cardone (crap) = $150 + install.

Steering brace ~ $250 + install else you'll ruin your new box.

Aftermarket Track bar & adapter ~ $350. Then, he is high as hell on price.
Ask a bank what loan value is & go slightly more for the shiny paint IF you are willing to fix the weaknesses.

Even then, it may not be reliable.
Just install Edge Juice w/Attitude (you can find used one on ebay for $400-$500 and it will give you extra hp/tq at the push of the button)
Steering brace also can be bought on ebay for $130 shipped (I can give you link to the seller)

On the small chance the truck has not been bought yet, here's something else to study,

Another note on the VP. A fuel gauge, decent Fuel presuure and 2 stroke & PS seem to have little impact on the life of the VP.
I put my new gauges on at 30k, only to find a dead LP. The VP died at 52k, just out of extended warranty.
I think the better remans will last better, Blue Chip seems to have the best record, but at a price.

It would be helpful to know the failure rate of Blue Chip & MWFI. I installed MWFI & returned my core. They called & said that I had gas in the fuel & to drain my tank. I can't prove 1 way or the other but don't like the possibility of bad fuel taking out my 1st pump & the 1st MWFI. Of course no way to prove where the bad fuel was bought. Only 2 possibilities and both deny anything could be wrong. Delivery drivers agree that it is physically possible to dump the wrong fuel in a tank.

And the point is some get lucky? Mine is on at least its 3rd VP at 150,000. Many of those miles have been with additive &/or AirDog. Apparently, it matters not.

My bank booked my '02 NV5600 HO at about $14,500 with 140K miles. I love this truck. Pulls great, gets great mileage, drives good but does go through a track bar now and then. Its on its second IP (dealer replaced the first one under warranty). The problems with these years are overstated, there's a hell of alot of these trucks out there workin away...

no one is saying 98.5-2002 are bad trucks... just that they have weak links in the fuel injection pump system. which can be fixed with a FASS and fuel pressure gauge to monitor pressures.

you'd have an entirely different point of view... if you just got done paying $2,000+ for a new VP44. it's not unusual for folks to go thru several VP44 before finally wise up by installing a FASS + gauge.

most of the time they give up and sell it to another unsuspecting buyer... who repeats the entire process of spending $2k... then selling
