Lift pump/filter

So I know that I'm probably needing a new lift pump as today it completely failed to the point of no fuel pressure on a pump for three years has had solid never fluctuating pressure, question is I not to long ago changed my filter but ran my truck lower then I normally do. If I sucked up junk from the tank would a clogged fuel filter cause the pump to not even prime? When I bump the starter the fass won't run at all,I've got a filter but I don't want to loose prime in case it won't start.

I have had both the tanks out of my rigs in the past 6 months and was surprised to find practically nothing in them regarding dirt or gunk.

However a clean white fuel filter often comes out black or dark gray every 10K miles on the Dodge.

Also I noted the factory fuel pick up point is sitting on teh tank bottom so running your fuel low wouldn't matter much since it draws off the near bottom of the tank anyway.

If the FASS isn't running at all it may be the wiring or fuses. I seem to remember the fass bragging that it was a 50,000 hour unit. A truck with 100K miles may have 7-15K hours on it depending on driving speeds.

With fuel in the tank the FASS should prime, but needs power to run.

Just what I am seeing here.

Check the fuse and relay for the fass. I have seen pin 30 and pin 87 both heat up and shake their way loose in the relay connector. This gives the same "bump the key/no lp run" that you describe.

there should be a fuse between your 12v power source and the relay for the lift pump. unless your setup didn't come with one, which would make me wonder whats going on.

Where are these pins located - and would this also apply to the stock engine mounted pump? Mine seems to be running intermittently - gauged solely by sound. I always try to make it a point to release the emergency brake, close the doors, buckle up the seat belts and turn off everything so there will be no buzzers or dinging bells and listen for that hum. Here lately, if I hear it at all, it seems to be more muted. The current pump was replaced by the PO just before I got it. It has about 70K miles on it.
