lift pump
ok think I am in need of a lift pump again??
I idle 15 psi and drive is 5 - do I need a filter? lp? something clogged?
I run the big lin kit and draw straw with lp relocated in front of tank it is a rotary type like an airtex? got it from pennsicola diesel I barley drive the truck and it seems like I am doing a lp every year do not want to buy another vp44 that's for sure
if it is the lp is there a part number for one like I hAVE? to buy at like autozone ?

DTR's Cow Boss
Throw a filter on and quit worrying, chances are its just a dirty filter. I've had little to no luck with the air tex pumps,I've been running a fass ddrp and u seen 20psi idling and no less then 10psi mashing on it hard...

The airtex # is e7153. I think AutoZone and Advanced auto parts carry them I've had mine mounted on the frame with the big line kit for about 5 1/2 years with no problems. 18 psi at idle, drops to about 12 psi wot with a big load (24k).

So then why do I keep loosing pumps? Do you use a pre filter? I am thinking something is sucked in the pump

Do you use a anti bacterial additive in the fuel? You may have gooey bacteria goop growing in the bottom of your tank. It's more likely to happen if the truck sits for extended time.

Well the truck sometimes sits for a week or so, then short trips
When I worked my last job had a take home so it sat month or more
I do use 2 stroke oil and the diesel cleaner they sell at truck stops
Tried biodiesel 1 time worst mpg I ever got
I did not do the draw straw instal had a shop do it when VP died so no idea if there is a strainer, guess no strainer and no prefilter = anything going in tank clogs pump
I saw Dtr store sells a inline metal filter cheap, can I use something like the adapter with spin on filter from a house oil tank?

I didn't realize mine had a prefilter until it started to self destruct and clogged my FASS. They are cheap and have a double barb fitting that just gets clamped on the hose.
How are you powering the LP? If you are getting low voltage to it it will self destruct.
Mine is set up with big honking wires from battery to HD relay to pump and a dedicated big honking ground back to the battery. I power the relay tripping with the old stock LP relay that way it still cycles as needed.

I'm also running: spin-on baldwin 20micron filter/Holley blue/airtex e7153/factory filter, in that order. Just changed the Holley blue out last night after 2+yrs. Test drive and under hard acceleration I can drop the fuel psi to 5. Still not happy and will have to ck the 1yr old airtex. I think some small junk that made it to the factory filter caused the LP to fail but not sure.
