If you were to buy a newer Dodge, what year would you buy.

As the header says, if you were to buy a newer Dodge truck, what year would you buy and why.

I have had my 2001 a long time and getting tired of the VP44 and all it's quirks. The Cummins gives great fuel mileage, but the VP44 reliability has always been an issue.

I can't honestly say I would go newer. 03-04 is getting old enough now to start having lots of problems, and I think it was 05 they went to stupid things like having the computer turn on and off the lights. When you have to replace a computer to make your turn signals work, the VP doesn't seem like such a hassle.

I hate to say it, but thank goodness I am getting old enough that I probably can keep my 97 going long enough to not really worry about it.

You could always do a VE swap to your 01........... [coffee]

My '07 5.9 has been 1000% more reliable and easier to drive than my '98.5 24v. I see lots of moderate mileage, stock 3rd gen 5.9's in the forum classifieds. Mine's been back to the dealer once for the Calif. KO8 emissions reflash. They called and said the procedure killed the ECM. Two days later the truck was smogged, flashed with a new ECM and back on the road.
I miss the seats on that truck and that's it.

I'd get another 01-02 2nd gen, or a 03-04 3rd gen.

My 2001 has been fairly solid, only has had the common issues of the door rust, O/D lockup hunting, fuel tank sensor failure, and the dashboard cracks.

I wouldn't mind another one, but the next one will be a manual transmission.

I am a Dodge fan, probably always will be.

first was a new 1979, I drove it just over 210k
second was a 1988 gas, I drove is 165k
third was a 1992 diesel, some where over 250k, not real sure the odometer broke
4th is a 01, currently with 230k, I love the truck but have had too many issues lately with the VP44

My daily driver is a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, currently has 294k

Nothing newer than 01.

I'll deal with VP issues any day over the crap I get to see in the newer trucks.
