I Need Some Help With A Dealer Question
First off please no dealer bashing and if this is a wrong form please move to the right
one.
I need to know some questions to make sure before I go further with this to make sure that I have a leg to stand on. My truck is still under the 100k warranty and today I have finally traced were my oil leak is coming from turns out its not motor oil but its power steering fluid that is leaking out of the bottom of the pump were the pitman arm bolts on. I know that this is a two part seal and so forth. Now question at hand is this covered under my power train warranty? because they are flat out denying me that it is under the warranty but I believe it is and have been told by a mechanic it should be under the warranty. I have looked around for the part to do it my self but no one is coming up with the part because they say its too new?? So do I have a leg to stand up on if I start to make a big deal about this?

Have you been needing to add PS fluid? This may not answer your question but may verify your theory. How many miles on the truck? My opinion==> I would NOT consider a PS pump part of the drivetrain. It's part of the steering system. A rack and pinion isn't part of a drivetrain, and a PS pump is part of that system. Does that make sence to you?
if its not coverd then how the heck do i find this part no one around here seems to know what I am talking about short of buying the pump I have tried napa and couple other stores and they all say they cant find a listing.

I think you are getting 2 different parts mixed up. The power steering pump is attached to the motor and has a fan belt going to the pulley. The pitman arm is attached to the power steering box that is a different part than the pump. The pump is what gives you the fluid pressure to the steering box that inturn turns the front wheels. I don't think that is part of a powertrian warranty unless you have something extra to cover the steering as well.

Power steering leak
What you need is a seal kit for the bottom end of the power steering box. That is the terminology used here at the dealerships. If you are going to do it yourself you will need a puller to get the pitman arm off. You will also need to take the sector shaft out from the top of the steering box, remove the snap ring, 2 rubber seals and the steel spacer washer. Re-install the new parts, the sector shaft and the pitman arm. Refill the power steering pump.

RETOOC thanks a million I was totally unaware of the two seperate parts the box is defantly the culprit and from doing some more reasearch with the correct parts seems its farley common. Its goin to be a major pita to do if i left it in the truck aint it? i dont see any way around not hving to take the sector shaft out is there guess this ones goin on my bench as soon as i get back from vaccation before it gets worse.

Just make sure it's the box,,, WASH Everything down then runit to see where the leak is, Because if it is the PS Pump leaking (very Common) It could be running down and dripping off the steering box (gravity), If it's the PS pump Cummins sells a seal kit ($8.65) For it.
Good Luck
I am forpositve its the gear because the whole steering box is soaked i seen were its leaking out the top were the sector saft is seeping but its loosing most of the fluid out the bottom seal. Maybe I should have not moved my breather bottle as the oil from that mess was probilly keeping every thing in check cause it started to leak a day after i fixed that mess so i went from motor oil all over the radiator and bottom of the motor to ps fluid all over thing down below too

IF YOUR HANDY AT ALL WITH TOOLS, DC OFFERS A RESEAL KIT PN# 4470365 FOR ABOUT 34.00. A NEW GEAR RUNS 446.00 (PN # R2113500AC), WITH ECHANGE ( A REMAN)
GOOD LUCK BUD....
FWIW I'ts not worth the time and effort to repair the pump. We have had many of these in the shop and very little luck with repairing that seal. Chances are that the bearing is most likley gone as well. Take into consideration that with a reman gear you get a 12/12000 warranty where as if you repair yourself no warranty. Not trying to sway you one way or the other just listing some facts.
