how to tell a 53 block?
Hi all
My good buddy has a 2000 3500 ctd w/5 speed and we were wondering how to tell if one has a 53 block. Lots of post about them but none to clear on why they are bad. Help us out please!!

53 blocks are Brazilian made blocks found in some 1998.5 to about 2001 24-valve Dodge trucks (some late 12-valvers had them too). These blocks suffer from a manufacturing defect which causes the blocks to crack and subsequently leak coolant. The crack occurs on the passenger's side, under the freeze plugs.
