how squeaky are your brakes?

Well, at 18k miles, had to do new brakes AND rotors on my '02. Had them done at the dealership 'cause it was in for some other work as well. They started squeaking on the ride home from the dealership, brought it back, and they deglazed the pads again, telling me there was nothing wrong. I thought that was strange enough with it having less than 100 miles on it, and already glazing...Well now im at 23k miles, and I sound like one of the old unmaintained tanker trucks coming to a stop light, its BAAADD. I'm wondering if they all squeak and squeal like this, or are my calipers hanging up, and killing my brakes. Every time I tow, I have the trailer brakes working properly, I also run my auto like a manual and downshift on grades, I've tried braking easy for weeks at a time, and braking hard for weeks, both with the same results. Any input is appreciated before I go tearing into this thing to find out if the dealer missed hanging calipers.

Did you get the value line pads or the oem pads?

I just asked because allot of the discount pads are terrible. There's also a possibility that DC changed pad manufacturers for the OEM pads. There could be a hundred reasons. In any event, 18k isn't much mileage out of your brakes.

Thats what I said, "new brakes and rotors at 18k miles...?" I pull a lot, but not SO much that my brakes are shot before the engine is even broken in! and now I've only put 5k miles on these new ones, and they sound worse than the old ones when they were completely shot...

I know the 2nd and 3rd gens are pretty different, but I've got 54k on my originals and I tow 9-12k about 70% of the time.

I find that mine will squeal when she has sat overnight. All I do is a hard powerstop and it cleans the face of the pads and the squeal is gone. I am sure it is getting the pads to the right temperature as well.

Mine squeal really bad as well and I have tried everything to make them stop. If you find a way to stop them be sure to tell me because it drives me up the wall

I've always heard the "squeal" is the pads vibrating inside the caliper, use to put the anti-squeal goop that you buy at the auto parts to put on the back of the pads.
I don't think this has anything to do with the pads wearing out so soon though, just sorry pads, since they outlawed the dreaded "asbestos" the pads now days won't hang.
You can try the quality ceramic pads, they usually hang a long while, but are harder on the rotors.

I'm going to try to get a day off this weekend and tear into this front end. I've got pops when turning now on top of my brake squeal (btw only 23k on the ticker). I'll post up if I find any good info!

I've got the same problem, just changed the fronts 2 weeks ago and the rears 2 nights ago. OEM on the front and Ceramic on the back. Still the same squeal, it is very annoying. The ceramic pads in the rear are much quieter but I didn't want them on the fronts for disk wear etc. I did use that goop on the back of the pads and so did the PO but he used a good 3/16" of it not fun to clean off.

If anyone comes up with a fix please let me know.
