How much is too much boost pressure?

???I installed a J-hook to increase boost pressure and am now a bit concerned on how much is too much. My normal guage readings prior to the install read max boost at about 14 pounds. Now I run directly up to 24 on the floor and post turbo EGTs at 950 with no load conditions. Prior EGTs (no load) never exceeded 700 before the J hook install. Normal 55mph EGTs ran at about 450 degrees and now run at +/- 550 degrees. Boost pressure readings were 0-2 at 55mph flat and now stay at 5-6 pounds at 55 mph and run to 14-16 pounds up hills. Any insight on my situation before I do some serious damage would be greatly appreciated. ???

Most are seeing 40+ lbs of Boost before head gaskets start going south.
I get 25+ regularly, stock wastgate should be set to around 19-20 lbs.

I appreciate the input! Sounds like I am not going overboard. How about the temperatures? Do they sound comparable/high/low? Thanks again.

Is your Thermocouple/Pyro probe pre, or post turbo?

Re:How much is too much boost pressure?

Try not to make your HY35 go above 30psi after that your doing nothing but blowing extremly HOT air and it WILL raise your EGTs.<br> Danny

Re:How much is too much boost pressure?

i hit 33 regularly, sometimes 37, and i could hit 40 before i reinstalled my rack stop. the head gasket it still holding. i don't know as you need it to &quot;hold&quot;, i mean that scheid truck was only putting out somewhere around 200psi with the headgasket still &quot;intact&quot; ;D

Re:How much is too much boost pressure?

The stock head gaskets on 12v and ETH/HO engines seem to hold less pressure then the ETC. My boost has been running in the low 50's (measured at the map sensor, turbo boost is even higher) for over a year and I'm still on the original headgasket. I've been told that ETC's won't take over 60#'s without oringing though. My experience has been that 40#'s with a stock turbo causes extreme turbo drive/back pressure and is more detrimental then higher boost with a turbo that has lower drive pressures. HTH's Larry
