Hey there
I just bought this dodge a week ago, took it to my mechanic and he said it was good . But then my friend said it doesn’t sound normal.
in the video you can hear a background noise, sounds like a **** rod going to fly through the block

Sounds fine to me, but I am no expert. I have only owned a couple hundred Cummins trucks.

I'm just saying I'd trust the mech over a guy who might know something...He probably is hearing the injection pump and misinterpreting it for a rod knock. That recording you posted sounds like a normal 24v to me. I have always relied on Power Service white bottle since I got mine with 40K miles on it before the diesel went ULSD. This helps with internal issues in the IP that was lost when they mandated removing the sulfur from the diesel supply.
My IP sounds about as clattery as any I have ever heard. Some of my car guy friends have diagnosed it as a bad valve, loose timing chain...there isn't a chain in the Cummins and a bad bearing. OK, I'm still driving it with the original vp at 170K miles.
I'd suggest getting a fuel pressure gauge and an exhaust gas temp gauge, then drive it. You will want to monitor minimum 10 psi fuel pressure and don't exceed 1200F on the exhaust...Enjoy your new truck.
