hesitation/slamming from dead stop

Started having a hesitation/slamming when I push the throttle. After I get moving there everything is normal until coming to a stop. When I come to a complete stop, you can feel the drive power releasing.

Auto Transmission - 170,000 miles on the rebuild.

Original thought was the pinion on the rear diff but now thinking something let loose in my fwd clutch area like a broken snap ring. Haven't had a chance to drop the pan yet. Anyone else seen this?

May also be the fluid level or a plugged filter.. no oil pressure at low revs.
