Help, starter fuse keeps blowing!
Its mainly only in the morning, but when I go to start my truck after heating the fuel the 20 amp fuse under the hood pops. This thing has been eating some fuses, everything else seems normal and this only happens once or twice a month on both cold and warm days. Its crazy, the fuse does not blow until its in the momentary start position, sometimes I'll even get 1/2 or 1/4 of a reveloution of the motor before it blows the fuse. I was hoping someone might know about this problem. TIA

could be its time to rebuild the starter

Try changing the starter relay. My buddy had this same problem on his gasser and all we did was change the relay and it's worked ever since.

Change the contacts in your starter solenoid. They are easy to replace and only cost ~$30.
|
Starter contacts 100%. You could go the cheap temporary way and get a circut breaker in place of the fuse. I've used the circut breaker for a few months, and haven't changed the contacts, but I have them ready.

Thanks! Now the contacts on the Solenoid, are they on the outside or inside of the solenoid? Will I need to pull the starter to do this?
|
The solenoid contacts are within the starter enclosure and you will have to pull the starter.
