Help!!! Please!!!
 

I bought my truck back in November of 06 and thought it was a little gutless but i thought it was the tires that were on it. Use to have 33's and i bought new stock tires to put on it. That wasn't the problem. Then i hooked up to my 24' enclosed cargo trailer total pulling weight would be about 7000# and my truck was just gutless. Anyone have any ideas?

I have had it in the shop to get it checked and they checked the fuel pressure and it was runng about 12-14 psi i think around 2000 can't quite remember, all i know is it was xcellent fuel pressure. Once they couldn't find the problem i tok it to the tranny shop and they said all the gears were locking up normal. My truk is sluggish even empty, I am getting beat by stock 350's which isn't suppose to happen. Then when it shifts in to overdrive my foot is to the floor an it will barely crawl above 80. Please help me. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Have you checked fuel & air filters? Are you fogging the nieghborhoog with smoke ? Then maybe a loose clamp or leak is bleeding off boost . The Powerservice in the silver bottle (one Quart/ tank ) is good for about a mile per gallon. At least when I first got my truck.

Yeah when i bought my truck i changed the fuel and air filters. Would haing the valves adjusted do anything? There is really no smoke unless its a old day there is a little white and blue smoke. How would i check the boost? The shop i took it to said that everything was fine and they checked the fuel pressure an the boost and basically everything they could. Have any other ideas?

Gauges.

You need gauges. That's how you would check the boost and at a glance always know the fuel pressure.

Get gauges.

Checked your MAP sensor yet? Pulled any codes??

like pj says, gauges are only cool to look at, they help you protect the motor, and are a diagnostic tool.
you can check your own fuel pressure. the boost gauge will tell you the injection pump and injectors are supplying the needed fuel, because exhaust gases generate boost, and burned fuel makes exhaust. you can compare other trucks normal boost, pyro, and f/p to determine what is or isnt going on with your truck.

I have also checked the MAP sensor and IAT sensor and they both looked brand new. I would put guages in my truck but i don't have the extra 300 bucks laying around and i am thinking about selling it an going to a duramax. My truck is a 1999 Dodge 2500 quad cab long box, Automatic. Any other ideas?

Yes, by all means, do that. :confused: That would be less than a $300.00 expense for sure.

Sounds like a dead Lift pump and or Injection pump. You need to check your fuel pressure.

I think you NEED to check the boost pressure. If you don't have the money for all of the gauges, just get a boost gauge to start with. I know you stated a "shop" check every thing out, but I'd still cheack all of the aftercooler hoses and clamps. Also check the vacuum line between the turbo vacuum canister and the turbo wastegate. Also check for restrictions in the air cleaner box and the exhaust system. You also stated that the MAO and IAT sensers "looked good". Try pulling them back out and give them a though cleaning.

With all that said, It sounds to me like you're not getting boost. Maybe the wastegate is sticking open, which would 'cause a very low or no boost situation. Once again you NEED a boost gauge at minimum to help diagnose this problem............

Oh yeah, also reset the APPS. It could be that simple. And as mentioned above, a fuel pressure gauge is also needed. So the minimum gauses need are boost and fuel pressure..................

Yes i know i need guages but i really can't afford them, unless anyone has a boost and fuel pressure guage they would like to give me? When i took the MAP sensor out i cleaned that really good and then i replaced the IAT sensor with a new one. Does anyone have pics of some of the hoses i should be checking for boost? My truck is straight piped so i know its nothing to do with the muffler or catelytic converter. Any other ideas? I am thinking that i have a bad injection pump and if that is true i am just going to sell the truck

Good possibility. Can you get it to somewhere with a scanner to check the codes?
