Head Reinstall questions

Just a couple of ?'s before this weekend's thrash of putting the head back on then the new twins..oh yea.. anyways.. is there a torque sequence for the head studs, i've seen and heard some ppl say just start in the middle and work your way out? is that correct, and what is the correct torque for ARP studs? I didnt get any paperwork with them. and just how do i set the valve lash on this guy, i am familar with setting lash on lets say a big block chevy with a solid cam, is it about the same? anyone got any links to some of these procedures? Head is in the shop right now getting resurfaced, valve job, oringed and having shims installed under the valves, all the head bolt holes have been bottom tapped..oh yea i saw somewhere that when installing the the stud bottom it out then back out 1/4 turn, why? Any info would be great before this weekend! Thanks alot for all the info, helped alot when i was pulling it last weekend...

I think the torque is 125 Ft/Lbs.

Start from the center and work your way out in a snail pattern...

Adjust valves just like a solid lifter gasser, with feeler gauges.

.010 for intake, .020 for exhaust.

Bottom out the stud, and back out 1/8 - 1/4. I dunno why, but I think it helps with the torque specs and pre-loading the course threads, but I'm not sure.

I am not putting ARP studs in mine, but I have heard guys say to torque them drive for awhile, torque again.....etc. up to 4 or 5 times. It may be excessive, but what do I know?

59, 77, 77, and 1/4 turn is spec with std bolts. Don't think have ever seen a different spec in publication.

To get a good final torque, you can torque them slowly to 125Lbs, then, go back to each stud one by one and back it off, and retorque in a snail pattern to 125Lbs. Do this 4 times and you won't have to Torque, heat, cool, and torque again.

I always torque mine to 133Lbs, but that's just me.
