Hard start w/ long crank time
Yesterday, my recent purchase, 03 1 ton, would not start. Took 3 attempts of long craniking times of 15-25 seconds. Finally hit on the 3rd attempt. I assume this is not normal. The outside temp was around 53. This was the first cold day with the truck, I did use the glow plugs, waited till the pig tail light went out. and tried again.
This really sent me to the moon. I am a local firefighter and could not get to a call. Please tell me this is not normal. |
1- you have a 3rd gen and this is the wrong forum to ask
2- cummins dont have glow plugs, the pig tail light is for the intake grid heater which warms the air entering the intake manifol 3- you should check the codes and see if anything comes up, that could help you find your problem. check back with us after you get the codes and maybe we can help. PS- to check the codes turn the key on and off 3 times, last time leaving it on, watch in the odometer window and write down the numbers that show up for ECM and PCM |
sorry about the wrong forum... I am still learning. This morning, 43 degrees, wont start at all, found the following codes: 0480, 0633,2507, 0602, 0234
I found the waste gate hose disconnected with a bolt stuffed in it, and dealer put new batteries in it 4 days ago. It also has straigt pipe exhaust with no muffler. I am ready to drive this thing thru the dealers front window... if i can get it started. |
P0480 Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Malfunction-sounds like something you can fix later
P0234 Engine Overboost Condition- caused by plugged wastegate and possible chip etc that increases fueling to make too much boost P0602 Control Module Programming Error- sounds like the source of your problems. a bad ecm thats not allowing the engine to run. sounds to me like the previous owner modded it and had problems and traded it in. 633 and 2507 i couldnt find any info on. good luck |
I got it started, all I did was crack the filter drain to check for water, was clean, and plugged in the block heater and tried to start it about an hour later. It's going to a local dodge dealer.. pony up$$$ to see whats wrong
