Grid heater?

I have been having the worst time trying to start my truck during the cold wyoming wheather. I do plug it in at night and that works just fine but when i go to work from 4pm to 10pm and its not plugged in i go out to start it, and it takes me about ten minutes to do it. I let till the wait to start light turns off of course, i have waited 30 seconds after it turns off, i have to sit there and crank it over about 12-15 times before it will idle. anyone have any suggestions? should i clean my grid heater or just replace it? have it checked? thanks mario

Do not wait after the light goes out, hit the starter as soon as wait to start light goes out.

Try a second grid heater cycle. When the wait to start light goes out, turn key off, and back on. The wait light will come on, when it goes out, start truck.
