Angry Gosh Darn wheel bearing assembly

I need to replace my wheel bearing assembly ($290). It doesn't have wheel studs with it. They're $21 ($168) a piece at the dealership. without a hydraulic press how does one remove 8 pressed(edit) in wheel studs without destroying the threading?

Put a lugnut on it and thread it all the on but for 2-3 threads. Hit it with a little PB blaster, put a 2X4 on the nut and pound away.

Tell the dealer they should be ashamed of themselves.

I think I'll try that. And I'll also consider applying generous amounts of heat. Go Acetylene!

Try an auto parts store and see how much they charge. Maybe be easier to get new ones.

I checked when I got the assembly, they won't even special order 'em. At least Schucks doesn't.

I think I'll order 'em from the dealership and if I don't need 'em, return the buggers and pay the 20% restocking fee.

I had one assembly that had the studs in it and one that didn't. I just beat mine out and saved that extras for just is case. It isn't that had, just make sure that you get the new ones set right.

I use an air chisel with a round bit. Pops them right out. I use the air chisel from the back to install them as well. -Glen

I got my new front bearings at a good parts store ,not schucks. They are Tmken bearings . Was about 350 for both sides.
Whe ever did the front breaks before I got my truck screwwed up the bearings.

Yep, use a air chisel with round tip or big brass hammer to remove the studs. Make sure you get em back in tight or your rotors wont be tight and will elongate the holes

Thred on the lug nuts a few threads. One or two hood whacks and its out.
Tap them in witha hammer from the back, then suck them up with an impact gun and a lug-nut.

Been doing it on customer cars for years.
