Gen 2 Oil Change?

How many miles are you guys going these days on a change, given towing?
Anyboddy finding any CI+4 anymore?

Before I got my bypass filter I was doing 7000 mile intervals. I haven't seen CI+4 in quite a while up here.

I run 5k for the last 3 yr.

WOW! I must completely nuts to some of you folks. I run 0W-40 synthetic and change out the oil on a semi relligious 6,000km (3,600mi) schedule. My Beast has 218,000kms on it and is used for daily duty as well as towing our 11,000lb house from place to place as we full time RV.

Cheers!

Mike

Just changed mine at 7,500 miles

I go 5000 between changes with a Baldwin filter and whatever is on sale between Rotella/Delo/Valvoline Premium Blue...

I go between 4000 and 7500 miles.. I know 4000 seems low, but in the winter I can plow snow for 24 hours straight and only put on 100 miles within that 24 hr period. Depending on what you do with your truck it may be a better idea to install an hour meter and go off of actual hours and not miles... Just some food for thought... I run Shell Rotella 5w40 and fleetguard filter.

Somewhere I read that an hour of idling is equal to 25 miles of steady highway driving.

I came to my oil change conclusions after reading about lubes on bobistheoilguy.com.

It all boils down to how long the additives remain working depending on a number of factors regarding temperature, rpm, shear factors etc.

My typical driving style and conditions can handle 5-7K miles between changes with respect to the oil weight I choose...

How many of you used oil analysis to determine your oil change intervals?

I'm just curious--some of us are somewhat anal about data, while others don't want to mess with that kind of thing and just go with a good conservative interval recommended by the manufacturer.

My Buddy drove his 30,000 miles on dino oil an 1 oil filter. Oil analysis every 5k miles from Blackstone. At 30K miles he changed it for the heck of it, the Analysis was still showing lots of life. Reg driving with some towing mixed in.

I go 5k, change filter top off and change oil/filter at 10K.

*He dynod at 401hp.

I used to keep it around 5K miles. Now I'm up to 7500 miles on a change. I do an analysis with Blackstone on each change. On my last report, it was still showing good TBN and other numbers comparable to my shorter intervals. This is all on Delo 15W-40.

Oil Changes

Changed Oil & filter every 3k mi for first 100k mi.- then went to 7500mi. for the next 100k - since then somewhere between 7500 to 9000 mi.
Now have 421k on truck with no major problems. Oh yes, with Auto trans
changes every 30k - no problems
