I have a lot of play in my gear selector. You can also go between all the gears without stepping on the brake. The truck can be off or on and you can go from park all the way to first without having to step on the brake. Is there a way I can tighten all this up?

One other thing I cannot select first gear the shifter stops going down at 1st. I see where I can adjust on the order going down from the engine compartment think this would help?

 

It sounds like your steering column may have excessive play in it. I would have someone move the selector while you watch what's going on at the linkage under the good. It would be helpful if you filled out your signature so people know what year your truck is as the columns are not all the same.
