Gauges and Air intake elbows (1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 2500)
Wondering what your thoughts are on Glowshift Gauges? Only wanted to get a 2 pod pillar kit. Definately a fuel pressure gauge, not quite sure on my 2nd gauge choice? I dont really do a lot of pulling.
My second question is, air intake elbows. I don't have a cold air intake yet, but I thought maybe between the two, I'd buy the elbow first. Do these to add ons make any significant difference? Or do you need them both to see any differences? Thanks!

If you are stock there is no need for an elbow, the stocker is quite fine up to 400hp.
Glowshift gauges- maybe do a search on this site before you buy.
As for what you want to monitor - EGT first (whole engine rebuild), fuel pressure (Injection pump replacement), trans temp (for automatics)

ISSPRO and Autometer are superior to GS. Do an internet search about GS gauges and what people on various forums have to say about them and you'll likely change your mind.
If you even have plans for a fueling/timing box then some of those can come with an LCD gauge display with all gauges already contained. There's options...

I have some Isspro gauges, but had to swap the pyro 5 times to get one that worked for more than 3 weeks, the fuel pressure gauge rattled itself to death more often than I care to count.
I also installed a lot of Westach gauges on machinery, they look ugly like sin, but they work. I like their boost-EGT combo gauge.

Going to install the qauges myself. I'm assuming it's pretty straight forward. Just going with the 2 pod gauge pillar. Fuel pressure and Egt is what I'm leaning towards. Had the truck awhile now, son has started driving it, so hes kind pushing me to finally do things to her, I should have done along time ago!

The only issue I ever experienced with my ISSPRO is a faulty amplifier box on the pyrometer years ago. Easy to fix and hasnt bothered me again... My fuel pressure is mechanical and along with the snubber inline, ISSPRO installed a small orifice snubber in the gauge itself for free upon request. But understandably not everyone runs fuel to the gauge.
Most ISSPRO installs are their electrical systems which I hear good things about.
As for the thermocouple placement, yes it needs to be in the correct location and installed correctly in the manifold otherwise there could be issues. There are plenty of online directions on how to...
I also have a Westach combo Transmission temperature and Differential temperature gauge in my dash and its great. Not the prettiest...but does what its supposed to.

I thought about the metal shaving getting into places I dont want them, thought I'd look into some install videos online. Alpine, I wondered about the mechanical fuel gauges over the electrical ones.
Thanks for all the help! I'll try and keep you up to date with some pics!

I ran my shop vac alongside the drill bit and tap when I did my egt...be sure to offset it from the center to avoid drilling thru the spine....you'll see it. As for glowshift gauges, they added an f in their name for some reason.
Make sure and put a snubber in line if you go with electric fuel pressure gauge. If you go mechanical you run the chance of a fuel leak into the cab.....
