fuel pump question
will running my fuel until the light comes on hurt my pumps. and if so how low can I run it. and how long do they last with normal driving around town. and also I hurd that on the 01's the hole set up is jack up and I should replace the lift pump and get it out of the tank because if it goes it will take out both. is this true or not.

Original LP setup is external..dealer warranty will replace the LP and relocate it to the tank, general consensus is that leave it out of the tank and modify the system.
As for running until the light comes on, fuel is actually returned to the tank from the IP and most people agree to that it is a good idea to keep fuel no less than 1/4 tank. I go by mileage more than my gauge. |
okay cool but is there any kind of pump in the tank at all. and what the typical life span on them.

If your truck is stock as far as fuel system goes, there is not a pump in the tank. The pump is on the left side of the engine. If you bump the starter but don't start the engine, you will hear the lift pump run for about 25 secs.
As far as cooling of the IP goes, I don't know. Whether it is 1/4 tank full of 4/4 full, the fuel will be as warm as the air outside, so I would think the cooling is about the same regardless of the fuel level. Now, the chance to ingest air in the lift pump goes up as fuel level drops. That is not such a good thing. This is where FASS can help. -P |
cool thanks
