fuel pressure on a 99

my buddy has a 99 ctd 2500 auto trans he bought brand new. the only mod is a mbrp exhaust. he sad it has a miss to it. i tryed to show him that if you cycle the key three times the computer will spit out some codes if there is any, (like on my 01)

this did not work????????? does anyone know why not?

also there are no stems on the banjo bolts to test fuel pressure.....
WHY NOT..

how do you test fuel pressure or know if the vp is going bad with going to the mopar garage??? any help on this would be great, cause i made a foul of myself trying to help him out and nothing i told him worked..

The 98.5s and the 99s (early 24 valve) won't do the "Three Key Cycle" trick to read codes.

The 99s have two test ports on top of the fuel filter canister to check pressures.
The one my pressure gauge is plumbed into is the Post filter side.

That is what my 98.5 looks like. Are 99's the same?

My 99 used to look like that. I had a problem with the fuel heater. The hard plastic like glue they sealed up the wires with developed a leak. So I replaced mine with a top loader from I think a 2001 or newer.

I have not heard of anyone else having this problem, but I like the top load, verses a mess of fuel.

I used push lock fuel rated hydraulic hose to an under hood gauge. I teed it in before the filter. When I get gauges i will monitor in the cab the post filter pressure the same way.

right now i see 15psi engine off, and around 11psi at idle, and 5psi with the water seperator drain open, engine off.

Shovelhead,
I have my 99 done almost exactly like your picture. same needle valve (almost closed).
I get 14 psi after the filter untill it gets down to below freezing then it goes to about 13 maybe a bit less untill the truck warms up real good. We have 2% bio here and I think it really does make a difference in the winter even with the winter fuel.
I keep a spare filter in the truck just in case....I changed it twice last year at -15 F or better and it came out with yellow slime. Apparently they had some problems with the first of the bio here in Minn. last year.

Yup, when we had a cold (20s) snap here last week I noticed that my pressures were down about 1 - 2 psi across the board.
When the weather warmed back up, all was normal again.
